Renters Insurance
Renters Insurance is something of a confusing topic but one thing is for sure, it doesn’t matter whether you are renting a house, apartment,
car or some type of machinery there is always a risk that it will get damaged or destroyed in some way. Rental insurance covers the repair or
replacement costs caused by damage or theft of an item you are renting.
Now many people believe that when they rent a property that they are automatically covered on the insurance of the landlord. However, although
the landlord does indeed have insurance for his property, it is only for the building itself so if the structure is damaged in any way, his
insurance will cover the costs.
Of course, buildings insurance will not cover any personal belongings or any liability on your part so if property is lost or stolen, it is
renters insurance that covers the cost. You may be liable for any damage done to the apartment or house you're renting as a result of fire due to
your negligence.
If that fact doesn’t convince you, renters insurance does have another useful aspect to it. If an accident or injury occurs inside the
property you are renting that requires medical attention then any costs involved will be the responsibility of the renter. All medical fees and
legal costs will be paid for you if necessary so it is obviously worth the monthly outlay.
It is quite common for people to rent a car believing that their own insurance will cover the costs if there is an accident but this isn’t
always the case or if they do it has limited conditions but a worthwhile check should be carried out on the credit card you paid for the rental
on as this may cover the costs. If either your own auto insurance or the credit card is not able to provide insurance cover then the cost of
renters insurance is not expensive at anywhere between seven to thirteen dollars per day which is much cheaper than replacing the car.
Rental insurance covers many areas and just about anything that can be rented can be insured even though this short article has only really
mentioned the two most common. Some people believe that rental insurance is just another way to get more money out of someone renting something
but remember that it does not belong to you and replacing it could be very, very expensive should something untoward happen. The amount you'll
pay for insurance depends on your location, your deductible, the company and policy you choose, and on whether or not you decide to pay for
additional coverage. Many companies offer renters insurance but don’t use the first one you find, take your time and search for companies on the
Internet and if your finances will stand it, arrange for a large deductible if you want to keep the insurance premium to a minimum.
